Extracurricular Activities
We offer our students a rich set of extracurricular activities, many of them opportunities to strive together toward common goals. SMA athletes and contestants exemplify reverence for adults, teammates and opponents, respecting the games and their traditions through exceptional effort and gracious sportsmanship.
SMA Sports
Basketball (Fall) - Boys' and Girls' Teams
Volleyball (Fall/Winter) - Girls' Team
Soccer (Fall/Winter) - Co-Ed Team
Students in grades 5th-8th may participate in the sports program. Representing St. Michael Academy in sport competitions is a privilege and an honor, and as such requires a code of conduct.
Scholastic Competitions
Brain Brawl
Brain Brawl is a yearly Diocesan academic competition. Students must answer trivia-based questions with topics ranging from academics, to sports, and entertainment. Brain Brawl is open to students in 6th-8th grade. Students meet weekly during lunch to prepare for the competition. A group of students is then selected to compete as a team at the Diocesan Brain Brawl held at Bishop Kenney.
Battle of the Books
Battle of the Books is a diocesan wide reading competition. Eight students from our school in grades 6th-8th read sixteen to twenty different books and must recall minute details to come up with the correct answer. St. Michael Academy has been participating for over fourteen years and this tradition continues to grow among our students. We’ve had so many students interested that we have hosted an “in-house” competition. Battle of the Books has been an excellent way to encourage our students to practice teamwork, strive towards a common goal, and most importantly to keep reading!
Chess Club
Students in grades 2nd-8th may sign up for Chess Club. Our wonderful instructor will help students gain first hand experiences in the skills of chess and the inside knowledge of how to beat an opponent. Students are admitted on a first come first serve basis.
